"In Macbeth's Spinners by Justine Johnston Hemmestad, the three sisters of fate, Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos, flee Greece but no matter where they pause to seek refuge, Apollo inevitably sniffs them out and the chase resumes. Now they have run out of options. Tired, defeated, and homesick, they devise a means by which they will finally be rid of their pursuer and his vengeful craze to exact retribution on them. A risky spell may be the one solution they seek, utilizing the rising Scot leader, Macbeth, in a deadly game.
Justine Johnston Hemmestad takes a completely different approach to the age-old story of Macbeth, attempting to explain the series of events that followed his tragic demise from an angle never dealt with before, thus creating an intriguing storyline that draws you in as you read it. The conversations in the story flow like poetry and there were times I had the impression the lines in the story were songs. The sisters of fate make an interesting bunch of individuals and their dalliance with Apollo is explained in detail, making the story easy to follow. The emotions flow out of the pages in an almost raw form, showing just how adept Hemmestad is at expressing herself using the written word. Macbeth's Spinners is an intriguing novel well worth the time I took to read it. 5 stars"

5. Reviewed by Alex Ndirangu for Readers' Favorite: Macbeth's Spinners by Justine Johnston Hemmestad is an intriguing work of historical fiction. It is the 11th century, and the Scottish warlord Macbeth and his army are battling the invaders from the north. Three ancient sisters roam the lands as one body with one purpose: to ward off the influence of a being far beyond the ghosts of those who have lived before.
When I first picked up this book, I never imagined it would be this addictive. This book is unputdownable. Justine Johnston Hemmestad's skillfully constructed, vivid descriptions will seamlessly transport you back to ancient times. Here, you will visualize blades and shields clashing on a chaotic battlefield and sense Apollo's presence beneath the circling vultures in the most realistic way. The storyline kicks off in utter suspense that will keep your interest and hold your attention right from the first page. The theme of redemption permeates every page. But there is also a romance to melt readers' hearts. The moment when Apollo revealed why he always followed the sisters and his love for them that endured centuries was my favorite part of the book. More than anything, Macbeth's Spinners heavily impressed on me the need for healthy relationships and the importance of people who are always by your side. It was an excellent book, and I wouldn't mind rereading it. It was a wonderful experience. Grab yourself a copy and enjoy. 5 stars
